Rajya Sabha members will now be eligible for a wider range of modern gadgets—including smart TVs, smart projectors, and wearables—under an updated entitlement scheme aimed at supporting their official duties. The decision was made under the 'Scheme of Financial Entitlement of Members of Rajya Sabha for Computer Equipment', a provision that enables MPs to procure digital tools needed for their legislative functions.
As per the updated scheme, members elected for a term longer than three years can claim up to ₹2,00,000 for computer equipment, while those with a term of three years or less are entitled to ₹1,50,000. An additional ₹1,00,000 can be claimed after three years of service, provided the member has at least six months left in their tenure.
The list of permitted devices now includes smart TVs, smart displays, tablet computers with keyboards, smart projectors, portable projector screens, smart speakers, and wearables like smartwatches. Accessories such as webcams, microphones, headphones, antivirus software, and Bluetooth headsets are also eligible.
To claim the reimbursement, MPs must produce original purchase bills. This expansion adds to the already sanctioned devices like laptops, desktops, smartphones, printers, and scanners, helping members stay technologically equipped for their work.
